The central field of this massive carpet is a traditional infinite repeat of the Herati design common in rugs from this region, but with the added charm of small birds interspersed throughout.  The cream spandrels on both ends of the carpet with their claw shaped hooks make a striking frame.

The main portion of the field is flanked by a cream saw toothed design encased by step ridges acting as bases for the serrated leaves and trees.

The black primary border is a version of the famous Zili-Sultan vase and flower motif with the addition of decorative birds. Enlargements have been reproduced in the spandrels.  The guard borders alternate between geometric paisleys and stylized flower heads.

The colors in the carpet have been employed with great artistry and are quite varied: Black, brick, cream, salmon, sky blue, bronze, and pumpkin
