A fascinating, truly unique piece, this is a Swedish take on the peacock design themes made famous by earlier  Persian and Indian carpets.

In Greco-Roman mythology, the peacock tail has the “eyes” of the stars.  In Hinduism, the peacock is associated with Lakshmi who represents patience, kindness, and luck.

In this particular rug, not only are the peacocks and their tails depicted in a somewhat modernist manner throughout the rug, but there are in each “column” little squares of color to subtly give the viewer  a possible color pallet for the peacock’s feathers.
