A magnificent carpets made during the 19th century in an area of Turkey more famous for small prayer rugs. This is one of the relatively rare group of large size Ghiordes pieces woven at the time most probably by special order. There was a piece similar to this one, but in very poor condition, that came out of one of the great Scottish estates about a decade or so agoDetail of the field showing the colors
