Persian runner circa 1890 from a village known primarily for their runners.   For years, most western rug books used to conjecture that the background color of this type of rug was achieved by using camel hair, but that was debunked once scholars visited the area and found that the unique color and its variations was achieved by grinding up walnut husks into a fine powder that was then used to dye the wool

One of the group of Tibetan rugs known for their “checkerboard” design, this one has a wonderful tomato red and light gold color combination that is quite special.  There is a slight bit of wear in parts of the rug.  Circa 1900.
